Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Trying to move on and cope

I spent two days down in San Diego, with my aunt and uncle. We went out for dinner at a wonderful, peaceful Mexican restaurant with a beautiful fountain...very relaxing. I ordered a Mexican coffee and started to unwind (NOT!). It was foggy both yesterday and this morning there, and cool, only about 75 degrees. My aunt and I went thrift store shopping. I found a nice Cherokee denim jacket for $5.99, a denim hat to wear up at the ranch, and 3 neck shawls (all blue) for winter, plus a nice blue and white and yellow baby blanket (hand made) for $2.99. I found a nice, soft liver colored lap throw, too, for $1.50 which I'll keep in the car. We had salmon for dinner last night and a green salad. I slept a LOT, almost 12 hours a day while I was there. I stopped by the ranch this morning on my way home and the horses were all fine. I miss Beauty's welcoming neigh as Scout just ignores me when I drive in. There was a hay delivery on Tuesday and I'll try to post pics of that sometime.

The horses probably miss Beauty too. One day you are going to pull up to visit the horses and they will knicker a greeting to you, it will be Beauty's way of telling you she is sending her love.
Hang in there.

There is no time limit - you don't need to move on any faster than feels right to you and don't let anyone tell you to the contrary. I lost a very dear horse at age 10 in 2001, and I still think of her often - now more with pleasure at the memories than sorry, although the sorrow is still there and will never completely go away.

I do feel your pain. Time does heal. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost Sissy. I treasure each and every day that I have her. She is young, but that is not ever a guarantee either. My heart breaks for you, and I hope that in time, it will not hurt so bad. Keep living each day, and love the horses you have twice as much!
