Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

NorCal trip June 2008

Well, we had a wonderful trip to Northern California! We stayed 2 days in Paso Robles, and visited wineries, 2 days in Santa Rosa to visit MORE wineries and a dear friend and her horses, and 1 night in Sacramento. I got to visit TB Friends, near Sacramento, in Woodland, and meet my hero, JOE! He and his wife Cathy are so warm and friendly! Art and I immediately felt at ease with them and soon we were all joking around! We got to see some very beautiful horses there, horses that were race track "discards" at only 3 years of age! But, you know, it wasn't depressing! Joe and Cathy do such a WONDERFUL job with them and the horses are calm and friendly! We really enjoyed our visit with TB Friends!

please take a moment to read this

Enough said. This MUST END! We cannot, as a civilized society, allow THIS to happen to animals that we are caretakers for and that we love.

Cali

I just thought I'd post some pictures that hubby took of Cali with his NEW CAMERA! He is still getting used to it. Apparently there is another setting for movement. He sure needs to find it as MOST of his photos are still out of focus! Anyway, it is a learning experience for him. These pics of Cali came out very nice, so I thought I'd post them!

Busy weekend...Belmont Stakes, Extreme Mustang Makeover. It is also the LAST weekend before the end of school! Whoo, whoo! I'll be shedding tears of JOY on Friday the 13th at 12:30 p.m. when the kids go home! No...really, this group has been a good group and I will be crying TEARS for them when they leave! Sometimes I think about moving up a grade with a particular class, but I did that once and I don't want to do it again. So, I'll be a puddle of tears on Friday, the last day of school.

Isn't Cali cute? She just has the sweetest personality!

Sunni's birthday! 4 years old!

Well, today was Sunni's birthday. Actually, we don't know his exact birthday, but he was born in either May or June. I picked May 31 as his birthday! He was a PMU unwanted baby. Tossed aside and then rescued by United Pegasus. I adopted him from their Hemet ranch, when they still had it. He is a byproduct of the former PMU business. So, we took him and his "cohorts" carrots and apples today! Oh, and I found wheatgrass at my local health food store, so they also got wheatgrass. The babies ate that up in Wyoming and we've always given all our horses some as a special treat! Here are some pics from today. Enjoy!
The first picture shows the BIRTHDAY BOY! Actually, the last one should be second, but I haven't figured out yet how to move the photos around. They are at the fence thinking, "OH, BOY! Mom's got treats for us!" Yes, that's me spoiling them! My bad! Finally, the second photo of Scout shows what SHE thought of the whole birthday bash! "Ho-Hum!"
