Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Spring in the mountains

Saturday was a beautiful, warm spring day. Yesterday it was cold enough to snow! I drove around Saturday afternoon after cleaning the horse corrals and found these trees blooming up in the mountains. The elevation here is about 4,500 feet. These mountains got a light dusting of snow yesterday, but today it is predicted to be sunny and warm. Typical March! We took our son up with us yesterday because he wanted to go brush Cali, but it was so cold and windy we just gave them some sweet feed and hopped back into our car! The forecast is for warm and sunny weather for the rest of the week, so we'll probably drive back up midweek and visit the horses.

Pretty trees--it's like you live in a different Universe than we earthlings in Washington. :)

Wow. It'll be some time before we get blossoms. I think our elevation here is 1700'. We're still getting frosts at night and will for a few more months. I wish our growing season was longer. Sometimes we can have a frost in June and another one in late August.
