Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Beauty

Beauty and the saddle pad. She stood very still for this. She isn't sweating, she was hosed off a little bit. It gets very hot in the desert and this was early summer.

Is she a filly? She looks very young!

I rescued her when she was 2 years old, back in 2006. She died unexpectedly in 2009. I found her the next morning in her corral. No signs of a struggle, so we have no clue why she died. I THINK she laid down to roll and hit her head on the metal railing of her corral, killing her instantly. She WAS a Beauty...an appendix filly. I found her online on a slaughter-bound feedlot, up in Washington state, adopted her, and arranged for her transport to California, along with another mare. She was the love of my life. I sent her out for training, with my cousin, and almost didn't get her back! I miss her every day.
