Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Gigondas and the saddle pad

When we originally moved the horses, we had Gigondas in with the others. She would herd them and get them all excited, so one day my cousin Valerie came over and gave Gigo a little lesson in manners. After that, we moved her to her own pen in the "mare motel". Valerie did "Join Up" with her and after that, we are now able to go in, halter her, and take her for walks and down to the arena WITHOUT any problems! PHEW! THANK YOU VALERIE (again!)
So, one day Dad decided to put the saddle pad on Gigo. She was fine. GOOD GIRL! She actually enjoys her walks and her time in the arena. Once she gets there, she usually goes running off tooting and kicking and she runs around until she is ready to go back to her corral. Then, she will come up to either Dad or me quietly and stand, ready to be haltered. She has come a LONG WAY!
