Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Gigondas gets a good grooming! (alliteration)

I got some pics of hubby and Gigondas on Saturday. Brush, brush, brush...sigh, sigh, sigh. She stood absolutely still for him! I was in there cleaning out her corral. (I got the "dirty" job!) Hmmmppffff! Oh, well! I got to brush Cali! Here are some pics of hubby with "his girl".

She looks like she is really enjoying that. Look at her resting stance!

Panama didn't like being groomed when I first brought him to Denver. He was 2 and had only been groomed 2 or 3 times, by me on visits to my in-laws' place. He was really nervous and jumpy when I'd groom him. I had to find a curry he liked (which was difficult, as he is extremely ticklish), and I developed a routine of giving him treats during grooming sessions to give him something to look forward to.

The other day I realized that he actually LIKES being groomed now. It's been a gradual process, but I just now noticed how big of a difference there is. He especially likes to sunbathe and be groomed at the same time, and invariably lets it all hang out, if you know what I mean!
