Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

People of the mists

This was the view of Lake Hemet on Saturday. Down on the desert floor, it was clear and sunny, but once we started driving up the mountain, we encountered mist. We saw many cars driving down that were covered with snow. Lake Hemet is below 5,000 feet, so there wasn't snow there, but the clouds LOVE to settle on the mountains there and hang out! Hubby is part Iroquois and they are "The People of the Mist" because in their lands, the mist hangs on the ground. Here, in our local mountains, the clouds hang on the mountains and then disappear. The warm air from the desert acts like a wall to keep them out, but we enjoyed our cool weather up in the mountains on Saturday. I love how the weather on the mountains changes and is so varied! Sunday was a perfectly clear, warm day and all the clouds and mist and fog were gone!

Is Hemet Lake located near the city of Hemet, too?
I lived with Grandparents for a couple years in Hemet.
