Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Jennifer and Gigondas

Our daughter, Jennifer, has never been around horses so last weekend, when she did offer to come with us to see them, I was stunned. She was home alone on Saturday, had nothing to do (another FIRST!) and decided to join "the old folks" (HA! ....us!). We visited the local swap meet, bought fresh produce, and then went to see the horses. She said, "You didn't say you were going to stop there!" Well, DUH! Of course I'm going to stop and see "the herd"...anyway, I wanted to share with you the ONE AND ONLY picture of our daughter with the horses. Notice the crossed arms. Notice the sandals. She did wander over the pet Sunni and I was very proud of her! She said, "They're TOO BIG!" (i.e. the horses). She prefers small pets like goldfish. Go figure. Awwww...we love her anyway! And, YES...that's "nosey Gigondas". Jennifer said, "She's too fast!" as Gigondas cut loose and ran around the arena and took 3 dirt baths!

Awww, and your horse is even trying to make friends, too.

OK, so now I'm curious. Did you grow up with horses?
Did you have horses when your daughter was a little girl?

I always find it interesting when women are not interested in horses, because the norm seems to be horse-crazy girls who want a pony in their backyard (yup. That was me! hehe)

I have to admit I was a little fearful and cautious around my own horse for the first couple months. But probably not because she was horse, but because I needed to get to know her better so we could both trust each other, on the ground and in the saddle.

Thanks for a wonderful blog post.

By the way, I want to add you as one of the blogs I follow. I hope that's ok?
Your blog is wonderful to read (and listen to, too)
