Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Beauty is back!!!

My cousin brought Beauty back to the ranch where I board the other horses today! Valerie is moving her own horses (she has 4) down to the desert tomorrow as it is getting too cold for her up in the mountains! And, since her husband works down in the desert, it will eliminate a 30 minute daily drive for him, which is okay during the hot summer days, but now that fall is here, is unnecessary. So, she brought Beauty over this afternoon. She settled right in to her corral next to Sunni and they were "nosey, nosey" for a while! She is just the happiest mare! Val said that she took her for a final evening ride last night and she picked her way carefully among the rocks, took her time, and was a great trail horse! While I can't ride her for a while, Val said, when I'm ready, and my back is healed, she'll come over and give Beauty a "tune up"!

Anyway, LOOK who's back!!! I've really missed her! She was over at my cousin's ranch for about 4 months during the summer. Valerie took her out on the trails, through boulders, low tree branches, and even across a stream. She said Beauty was very calm and thoughtful. And, to think...she was on a FEEDLOT awaiting the final ride to slaughter when I adopted her! I'll have to do her story this week.

What a beauty she is. You named her well.

I can't wait to read more about her. :)
