Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

HOME at last!

I tell you, I've NEVER been so glad to be home!  We left Mammoth (Twin Lakes) Saturday, about eleven a.m.  It was between storms then, with more snow scheduled to hit that night and all day Sunday.  We decided we better get down off the mountain before Sunday morning, with another 2-3 inches of snow coming.  The road down the mountain was icy and I let hubby drive.  He drove in 1st gear, and even then, he spun out a couple of times.  We had a forest service ranger behind us, so we figured if we got in real trouble, he would help us, but we made it down okay.   I sat in the passenger seat with white knuckles, since I've NEVER driven on icy roads.  We made it down to Lone Pine Saturday night, got up this morning, and drove the rest of the way home.  I actually enjoyed my two days of snow, although it was a hassle to get my boots on every time I went outdoors and to bundle up!  I spent my free time napping and reading a book about the eastern Sierra.  I ventured out Saturday morning and found some raccoon footprints in the snow and ice and followed them.  Turns out, it went around our cabin and then up toward another one!  We watched a bluejay come and eat some peanuts that I put out on the porch railing.  It was a different weekend and I'm glad I got to experience a couple of days in the snow, but it's GOOD to be home!!!  Here are some pics from Saturday. That's our cabin early that morning and those are some pics of the road down to the town of Mammoth.  We actually stayed in a cabin above town, at Twin Lakes.

If I didn't have to be at work or an appt., an impending snowstorm wouldn't faze me, but I bet you were worried about getting off the mountain in time for you to return to work. Driving down steep icy roads is no fun. Glad you made it down ok. How are you feeling after your fall?
