Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Superstition Mountains~Outdoor Wednesday~May 18, 2011

Our plan was to arrive at the Superstition Mountains late Saturday afternoon and take photos and then head back to the hotel. We arrived there about 2:30 p.m., which was really too early for decent late afternoon light, so we decided to take the road to Canyon Lake and then perhaps all the way to Roosevelt Lake. We traveled the length of the lake road, until we hit the unpaved part and sign which said, "Unpaved Road 22 miles". ACK! Now, we're used to unpaved roads...we take them all the time in our quest to find photos, but it was hot, I was getting dehydrated, so we opted to finish that road another day. We drove back to the Superstition Mountains park, bought Gatorade, and I chugged it, then headed up the trail. Unfortunately, I was so exhausted that I couldn't go very far, so we turned around. Another trail, another day...But, the shadows were forming on the mountains and we turned around several times to take photos. Outdoor Wednesday for May 18, 2011. To view other participants, please go to: http://asoutherndaydreamer.blogspot.com/ The Superstition Mountains are about an hour outside of Scottsdale, AZ. They are out by Mesa, AZ. Apache Junction is also right by them.
