Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Scout saddled and tied! YEAH!

Cathy, the ranch owner, sent me this photo of Scout, who is standing patiently at the wash rack. She said she stood there and didn't even move! Wow! I have a trainer who is working with both Scout and Quad now. She also works with a couple of Cathy's Pasos. UNFORTUNATELY, rain is forecast for the next 5 days, with up to 8-10 inches forecast! ACK! Snow is forecast for about 8,000 feet, so that won't affect the horses. The ferrier is coming on Monday, rain or no rain, as Cathy has to get her horses shod for the Rose Parade. Look for her group: The Southern California Peruvian Paso Club in the Rose Parade on New Year's Day. I'm still "down and out" with this STUPID bronchitis, which this time is more like a bad cold. I'm okay if I take NyQuil, but then I can't drive, and I certainly would NEVER even attempt to drive the mountain road after taking NyQuil! I'm going to try to get going this morning as the swap meet is this weekend and it is the last one before Christmas, so I'll haul my BUTT out of my chair and hopefully get going this morning. Hubby went to the opening of the new Panera Bakery here in Palm Desert and came home with a box of delightful pastries for breakfast. Turns out, he was talking to the manager, whose daughter rides for the sheriff's department, and they ended up talking "horses" for some time. The coffee is done perking and I peeked out the front door...hhhmmmmm....smells like rain!

Good for Scout!

Feel better soon - that must be miserable.

Oooh, I love Peruvian Pasos. I'll watch for them in the parade. How nice of the ranch owner to work with your horses when you can't.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. No fun being sick on your vacation.

Good hubby! Sorry you're still sick!! This will be interesting to watch as your trainer takes them through their lessons. You'll have to pass on any interesting tidbits or words of advice from her.

Yay for Scout! Looks like he was taking a nap on that rail. lol!
You'll be riding him soon enough :)

My! That's a lot of rain. Sounds like mud slides may be in order after all that! Eeek!

Love Pasos! There's one at the horse rescue that I fell in love with last Spring, but she has some health issues and she can be very forward and fast! Not so much for a timid rider like me.

You just reminded me of the Rose Bowl Parade. I can'wait to watch this year. My cousins used to play in bands every year in the Rose Bowl Parade. Good times.

Feel better soon. I was sick for over 4 weeks and am just now starting to feel normal again. Illnesses last so much longer when we get older. bah!
