Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Quad saddled in the arena

Yesterday was a warm, sunny, bright, clear day and the trainer came up and worked Quad in the arena with my saddle. Doesn't he look good? It was still a little muddy from last week's rains and he will get another lesson next Tuesday.

He looks so happy! And I love his color. He's very unique. What kind of horse is he?

Quad is a thoroughbred. He is out of Bernstein, out of Storm Cat. Storm Cat is a grandson of Secretariat. Quad's gray color comes from his dam's side. He never made it at the racetrack, so he was shipped off to TB Friends, a thoroughbred rescue up near Sacramento, CA. I met Quad when hubby and I stopped at TB Friends in the summer of 2008. He came to us in the summer of 2009.
