We spent the day today (Thursday) traveling from Merced through the gold mining towns of Coulterville, Sonoma, Jackson, Sutter Creek, and Plymouth. For those of you not familiar with California's roads, the road we took parallels Interstate 5, but is closer to the Sierra Nevada mountains. And, instead of being 4 lanes each way, it is a two lane road! These are all the old mining towns along the foothills. Some have names like Sutter Creek and Calaveras and Angels Camp. And, they are OLD! Most were built and established yes, during California's gold rush days and are wonderfully preserved. Here are some pics from today. We pulled into our hotel outside of Sacramento early this afternoon and I took a 2 hour nap while hubby uploaded all of our photos!
