Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Polo ponies

Instead of taking the freeway home, like I usually do, Friday afternoon I drove straight out the street that my school is on. Sometimes I go that way to drive by the polo fields and watch the ponies being exercised. I hit the jackpot Friday afternoon! There were several groups of them which went around the outside of the polo fields with their exercise riders. Aren't they in great physical shape? This is down at the polo fields in Indio, CA. A colleague at school was telling me that her daughter takes lessons at a rescue just down the street. A gal there rescues polo ponies and then gives lessons with them. I found the rescue. It looks to be on about 20 acres. Someday I'll have to stop there and take a look around! HA! Maybe even have a lesson?

Wow. I'm impressed the guys are ponying 4 horses. It can challening enough to pony just one, and some folks are able to pony two.....but I've never seen anyone pony 4!

Oh! And I was just thinking of how this reminds me of professional dog walkers who who walk a multitude of dogs.....except these "polo dogs" weigh 30 times more than the barking ones!

eeep!
