I'm not really sure if I like this time change. While I get up early (5 a.m. or sooner), the afternoons get dark so quickly that I don't have the time to get up to the ranch and work the horses. By the time I get home from school, change my clothes, and drive up the hill, it is already 4:00 p.m. (if I don't hit any traffic) and that BARELY leaves me daylight! And, I don't like driving back down the mountain at night AT ALL! It's a two-lane, narrow road with lots of twists and turns and, after battling third graders all day, I'm dead tired! So, I'm very excited about the holiday tomorrow! I can get up in the morning, go in at 6:30 a.m. for my bloodwork that my doctor ordered (just routine), go home, eat breakfast, and head up the hill. Here are some pics of the road I travel when I drive up the mountains to see my horses. WOWZA!!! LOOK at those curves! It is Highway 74, also known as the "Killer Highway". Yes. There is hardly a week that someone doesn't drive their car or motorcycle off of it. I just drive SLOWLY and use the turnouts to let the speeding IDIOTS drive by me! That does look like a scary road - you're right to play it safe.
I swear I've been on that road. Wade was driving and I hid my head and didn't look. I don't know how you do it, I get vertigo just looking at your pics!
I would't like to drive that at night either. I appaud you for keeping your horses up at a higher elevation. I'm sure it is much more comfortable for them in the summer. I'm alway sad to see animals left out in the desert, sometimes with inadiquate shade.

I'm with you. Time to move to the equator where all the days remain adequate for horseback riding.
(that is right, right? I mean, they don't get longer and shorter days on the equator do they?)
Stay safe on that road. We have twists and turns but the bigger danger out here is nerve wracked deer...
That road does look quite treacherous. I had to drive around Lake Tahoe and down the mountain last night in the dark. You have to go slower now that you have no visibility to help you spot deer and coyotes in the road.
