Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Gigo update

I worked with both Gigondas and Sunni on Wednesday, after Scout, Cali, and Quad had their lessons on Tuesday.  It was slightly windy Wednesday.  The wind didn't bother Gigo at all, but Sunni spooked a couple of times.  She did everything perfectly!  She stood at the tie rack, and even allowed me to put fly spray ALL OVER HER! She went through her gaits (she still has trouble with "walk")...so I rewarded her with some time down in the arena.  She calmly walked through the gate there (she used to bolt), turned around and quietly waited for me to latch the gate.  She rolled and rolled and then got her "ya-yas" out by jumping, hopping, and running around the arena!  She quietly stood at the gate when she was done and I rewarded her with some sweet feed.  She really is a very smart and sensible mare and I'm still puzzled why she was such a BRAT when I first moved her into the new corral.  She THINKS and remembers her lessons.  I'm hoping that someday she will be rideable, but time will tell.  We're having plumbing problems with our kitchen sink...all the plumbing below it needs to be taken out and redone!  I currently have 4 leaks and the plumber is coming this morning.
