Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Great day Sunday!

I drove up to visit the horses today with my friend and fellow horse-lover, Susan. Susan is a great friend and wonderful person to have around the herd. She is very knowledgeable and I can turn her loose and she does whatever needs to be done! Why, she even groomed Quad and picked up his feet! GOOD JOB, SUSAN! And, she groomed Gigondas, who didn't even move for Sue! (I'm so JEALOUS!) Anyway, it was an absolutely HIDEOUS day here in the desert ~~108 degrees WITH HUMIDITY~ Ugh! So, we both were glad to get up into the cooler mountains (at least until about noon!). Susan brought some carrots for the herd and they were all excited to get them as a treat, mixed in with their sweet feed. They are all looking really good (Thank you, Cathy!) and Sunni's coat is a beautiful, dark, shiny one right now. His tail (remember Cali chewed it off a couple of years ago) is now almost touching the ground and looks good. We stayed for four hours and did mostly chores. I hosed off the mustangs, who promptly both rolled on the ground, we groomed Gigondas, Quad, and Sunni, and applied fly spray and then SWAT, let Gigo, then, Sunni, and then Quad out into the arena for some exercise. I finally looked at the clock at it was 1:00 and we were both famished! So, back down into the desert heat we went. I came home and uploaded photos and started to read a book (Cemetery Dance by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child). I'm exhausted, but it is a good exhaustion, since we got a LOT done today! Here are some pics.
