Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

We had our own earthquake here this morning!

I awoke at 4:03 this morning to sounds of a freight train rumbling (an earthquake) and felt our house shake. Our kitten, Abbey, jumped off the bed and went running down the hallway. Our black dog, Ripley, was somewhere. It woke hubby up, too. Turns out, it was a 4.3 earthquake centered about 35 miles away, in Beaumont, CA. No damage. The earth seems to be on the move all over. We'll be heading up to the ranch this morning, to see and work the horses. However, with 5 days of rain forecast, we probably won't be back up there this weekend and I have a 3 day weekend. DARN! Here are some pics from last January. Sunni, Gigondas, and Beauty at play in the arena a year ago. Now, Beauty is gone, but we have Quad.

Interesting. I was wondering if California was going to start getting bigger quakes now that such big quakes are happening around the world. My in-laws live in Beaumont.

Scary when the earth moves! Hope you get some horse time in before the rain comes. Happy Weekend!

I was afraid there would be sort of a ripple effect.

Scary! I'm glad no damage ocurred.

I saw a video online a couple weeks ago about all the bay area sea lions just disappearing from the downtown docks. This had never happened before in anyone's memory and they had no idea where the sea lions had gone.

I can't help but wonder if the sea lions can feel the earth moving and shifting and know another big earthquake is on it's way?
