Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Mom~Where's my jacket?

Here's Gigondas after the snow storm. All the horses have nice, long winter coats. And, Gigondas was from WA state and has been in snow many times up there. And, she's only about 7 years old, so she's still young! But, do you think she looks cold? I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll be able to drive up to the ranch and buy 2 bags of sweet feed for the horses and give them some! We have now had 2 days of nice, WARM weather, with another 7 in the forecast, then more rain. Ahhhhh.....winter! But, as you all know, California desperately needs snow and rain to replentish our reservoirs!

She looks like she is trying to guilt you into treats LOL and she is good at it.

She SURE IS! She takes her rubber bowl and picks it up in her teeth and bangs it against the corral rails! She's VERY spoiled! But, we both dearly love her! She's a completely different horse than the scared, human-hating one we got 3 years ago!

I look forward to the time when my Bella is no longer 'human-hating.' We're getting there. And, it's a very rewarding labor of love. :)
