Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Pocket Pony!!!

GUESS who was starving for attention yesterday and wouldn't leave my side? Hmmmm....any guesses? Okay. I'll tell you....SCOUT! Scout, when she arrived from Wyoming, was the most reluctant to bond with anybody. Cali immediately bonded with us and LOVED people and would follow us both around (hubby and me), but Scout was always aloof. So, yesterday, I noticed that both mustangs were dirty and they made a MESS with their hay! Cali even had some in her mane, so I got out the grooming kit and groomed both of them. Their fur is so long you can even see the strokes of the grooming brush! But, Scout wouldn't leave my side. She even came up and put her head on my shoulder! She followed me around the corral and even chased Cali off a couple of times! Go figure! As you can see, they are getting their "winter woolies". Even Gigondas has long fur now. And, Sunni looks like a wooly mammoth! It was clear yesterday, but the wind was blowing, so it was chilly. Winter is HERE.

Aww! Look at all those warm wooly horses! And so sweet that Scout is able to open up to you know. She must realize that humans mean feeling good and special treats. :)
