Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Palm Springs Indian Canyon shacks

Not exactly "The Love Shack", but I always enjoy driving past it.  It sits alone and abandoned on Indian land and is past the kiosk and entry gate to the Palm Springs Indian canyons.  There's another, smaller shack there too.  Remember, the original white settlers in the desert here had no air conditioning.  My husband grew up in a house in Rancho Mirage which never had a/c and he has told me stories about how, on hot summer nights, he would soak a bath towel in cold water, go and sleep up on the flat roof of his parents' house, and sleep all night, with a wet towel over him (primitive air conditioning).  The Indians would simply leave and head up into our local mountains, where the temperatures are much lower during the summer months.
