Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Update Gigondas

Gigondas was the first horse I took out Saturday morning.  She was calling to me from her corral and waiting by her gate, so I knew she wanted some R&R.  She led very nicely and calmly down to the hitching rail and I brushed her all over.  I'm sure it felt good.  She let out deep sighs.  I walked her around the ranch for a bit before taking her to the arena and once there, I lunged her for a while.  She calmly walked away when I released her.  She mostly ate weeds and showed off for all the other horses.  Then, when she was done, she stood patiently by the gate.  You know, she really DOES have good manners (except when she used to bolt in the arena)...and she really TRIES hard to please us!  I'm pleased with the progress she's made over the last year, but I still don't believe I'll ever be able to ride her.  She's just too unpredictable and with my back and leg like they already are, I need a calm horse, like Cali, to ride.  So, Gigo just gets to be a horse and lead the good life! She and the other horses alerted to the apple ranch farmer next door when he was out and about Saturday morning.  They ALL were looking over toward his place with their ears forward...really cute!

I'm sure she won't mind not being ridden. Horses like to be left alone for the most part. Looks like she has a good life!
