Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

It rained ALL DAY yesterday

I'm not kidding...ALL DAY!  We woke up at 4:30 a.m. to thunder and lightning.  I looked down the valley and it was REALLY. DARK.  The kind of dark that made me think, "Where's the umbrella?"  (No, I never found it!)  And, as I traveled the freeway to my school, it got darker and darker with lots of sideways lightning.  (never a good sign!)...We all had to hustle and get the kids in off the playground as the lightning WAS coming down sideways!  No lunch recess as there was still lightning nearby.  So, we went in and played math games, which was an opportunity for me to get to know the kids in a different setting (a fun one!).  But, by 3:00 p.m., I was tired and they were too and they all lined up...SIT DOWN...quietly!  Lots of hugs went around as they left (they usually stampede out of the room!). So, when I drove home, the storm had settled over Palm Desert and I returned to more rain, thunder, and lightning.  I just sat out on my front porch and watched the show!  It was a nice break from our 113/114 degree temps and I am looking forward to a beautiful day today.  The kidlets get out an hour early today so that we can have a training  :-)  Oh, and according to the news, several fires were started by the lightning hitting palm trees.  ***NOT MY IMAGE, no way!***

We got a little bit. If it ever rained here I'd think it was time to build an ark. It NEVER rains in the daylight. Well except that one time a couple of decades or so back.

We'd be tickled pink if you'd send the rain east to us! We are back up into the 100's this week, have set new records the last two days and probably will today. This Southern girl is DONE with this heat! LOL Oh wait, I have to work........~~sigh~~

The weather has been so weird this year all across the country. Makes me suspicious about the future, especially global warming. These are all signs...

New Mexico started off with drought last summer and kept it up for a year, and then the monsoon came and came. It's still raining here and this is not normal. The rains are usually done by late August. And we've been getting constant steady rain, lots of cloudy skies and very cool temps. Yesterday never got above 65 degrees and today it's not even above 60.
Makes me wonder what kind of winter we'll be having this year...
