Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

What to do?????

Suppose you had a blog and NOBODY ever commented.  Would you close it down?  That's what I'm considering.  Nobody (or very few people) ever leave comments.  This is extremely depressing.  IS ANYBODY THERE?????????????????????????????

I always read your blog but mostly I'm too brain dead to think of something intelligent to say :)

Check the stats to see how many visits you get. That can be quite informative.

Yeah, I do. I had 5 visitors today. That's real disappointing. I guess nobody wants to read about rescue horses.

Count me in as #6! I read whenever you post, just don't comment. Please don't stop blogging!

I read your blog at least 2-3 times a week. I don't always comment because I can't think of anything interesting to say. But I do enjoy reading about your beautiful horses and how you spend time with them. I'll try to leave at least a few words for you when I do stop by, though.

I've thought of moving on, too. I just don't have the time to compose a post and I don't have the energy or the time to be witty and entertaining, even though it seems like that's what many readers are looking for. I don't blog to entertain others, but thankfully most of my long time readers have stuck around because they actually want to get to know me and aren't interested in creatively written and entertaining posts.

But yeah, my comments have went way down over the last year, too. You should still just post for you. There are still folks who stop by to catch up on your blog, though, so don't give it up, ok?

I don't think I get any more visitors than you do, and I don't get many comments either. I keep blogging because I'm really doing it for me, not for readers. I always used to keep a journal, but now I blog instead, and I never had ANY readers then (at least, not any who were welcome, LOL). It's nice when someone comments, but not necessary.

If you do want to increase visits, though, consider this. When I "follow" a blog in Blogger, I can see the first line or two of the post in the reader window at the bottom of my dashboard. When I'm in a hurry, I tend to skip over posts that don't sound like they'll be interesting. Make that first sentence something to draw the reader in, make them want to read the rest of the post, and you'll probably have more visits. For instance, the two sentences of this post made me click right away. ;o)

Also, don't forget that many people read via feeds, and never even visit your blog, so they won't show up in your stats (or comments) -- but they're still reading your posts. I think you have great pictures in your posts, and lots of horses with lots of fun stories about them. :o) Don't get discouraged! I like your little blog!

I always read and rarely comment - but that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy your pictures and descriptions of your horse family. But you should keep it going for you - I find it's a great record of daily life with horses. I don't usually get that many comments either - except when a horse is sick or injured!

I find a lot of people stop by but don't comment. I've also found that if you visit other blogs and comment then most will have the courtesy to check out your blog and return the comment. If you want to blog then keep on posting. Good luck.

Well, I DO visit a lot of other blogs and I do comment on them. That's what's so frustrating! I DO take the time to leave comments on their blogs.

I comment and I appreciate your comments in return.

I am a lurker. I read a lot of blogs, and yours IS one of them. I usually never comment because What "I" have to say is usually meaningless to everyone. So keep on blogging.....I will keep on reading.....

You wanna know what my excuse is? I tend to eat while I'm reading blogs and my hands are busy with food and I'm not ambidextrous enough to type and eat at the same time. hehe!
I always mean to come back and come back to comment after I'm through eating, but something (or someone) always seems to distract me.

I am reading, though. :)

Sometimes I dont get any comments either. Then I remind myself why I started my blog, to write down all the horses I have had in my life, and chronicle them with pictures and stories. I got that done and three years later I am still writing. Sometimes I wish more people would comment but thats ok if they dont. I have met a lot of "blogger friends" and have even met a few! So unless you are doing it for yourself ??? I read your blog too, but alas like others I do not always comment.

There may be a lot of lurkers out there like me. Only commented 5 times or so in many years. Just love reading blogs. Guess I like short stories rather than books.

I love reading about your adventures. When I heard about the power outage I thought wow Cheryl Ann will be affected. Please don't stop blogging.
