Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Palm Trees and a warm Sunday~That's My World 020910

I took a drive around town on Sunday, after our latest round of rain. Saturday was dark and cloudy and it was snowing up in our local mountains, but Sunday morning was clear. There were still a few clouds hanging on the mountains and I figured there would be too much snow to drive up to see the horses (again...). So, instead, I drove around Palm Desert. There is always much to see at the Marriott Desert Springs Resort, so I drove out there. They have a bunch of flamingoes which are getting ready to breed. They have their own island and are pretty tame. See the mounds on the island? Those are their nests. (Click on the top photo to enlarge it and see them.) Did you know that this Marriott is a designated bird sanctuary? Yes, that's true. Additionally, many migratory birds stop there to eat and rest, on their journey to lands south of us. On Sunday I spotted many ducks and a flock of Canadian geese took off from somewhere else in the resort and flew overhead. That's My World for Tuesday, February 8, 2010. Since I can't access any of my horse photos, I thought I would show you my desert world this week. I'm glad I got these photos. Snow is forecast in our local mountains again today, down to 3,500 feet. My horses are at 4,000 feet. so they'll be getting more snow.

postcard pretty pictures. I love the one with the palm trees all lined up with the blue skies as the backdrop.

My world entry is here.
