Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

computer problems AGAIN and horse in a car accident

Well, I turned my computer off to reboot it and now it won't boot up at all. I borrowed hubby's laptop (again)...but it doesn't have any photos on it. Don't know if/when it will get fixed. Of course, ALL my photos are on it...sigh...In the meantime, another snow storm is hitting our local mountains with snow at 7,000 feet and then down to 4,000. The horses are at 4,000 feet...oh, joy! More snow! So, I'm not sure I'll even be able to get up to the ranch all weekend...another sigh...And, on the local news, I heard that, not far from my school, a car collided with a horse. Horse is okay, but ran away and a good samaritan caught it and calmed it down. Not sure about its rider (I didn't hear). Out near Thermal there are a lot of horse ranches AND the HITS circuit is going on now. It's real "horse country" out there...lots of pasture boarding and small ranches. My cousin, Don, married a gal from Thermal. Her parents had a 40 acre alfalfa ranch. Both of her parents are gone now and a tenant is in the ranch, but developments are encroaching and I'm not sure how much longer the ranch will even be around. So, big ranches are moving further and further down the valley, toward the Salton Sea. I remember when I used to drive to another school, way down in the valley, and take the "back roads" past all the ranches and farms. Now it's mostly developments. How sad. Farmers losing their farms, ranchers losing their ranches...ain't progress wonderful? COMPUTER UPDATE: After several attempts tonight, my desktop still isn't booting up, so hubby will take it into the shop and the techs will try to pull all my photos and documents off of it next week. RIP, computer.

Did I leave a comment yet about my computer problems? I had the same thing happen to my laptop last week, the power would come on, but nothing else. For me, it was my RAM. I replaced it with new, and then it booted up. I got lucky because I hadn't backed up anything!!
