Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Snakeskin!

Up at the ranch, the owner keeps a beady eye out for snakes. Any kind of snake. She raises and breeds exotic birds and doesn't want snakes around the ranch! I've run into 3 non-venomous ones which have come out of the seed storage room, right as I was turning on the water faucet. I now don't even scream anymore...they are such a non-event! And, Sunday, as I was backing up my car from the mustangs' corral, I was watching the ground and I saw...a snake skin! I don't believe it was a rattlesnake, but maybe a gopher snake. However, it was right next to the "bird house" and now the owners will keep an eye out for any snake. I stuck it in my car and it now rests outside our front gate, perhaps warning people to STAY AWAY!!! :-) Photo is from the Santa Rosa mountains looking down to Palm Canyon. It was a picture-perfect day on Sunday and I took quite a few photos on the way up to the horse ranch.

I have been watching the news about the fires, are you anywhere close to those? Your picture is beautiful and I see no smoke that is why I asked. The snake skin is pretty neat to have found I bet. We love snakes, of course, you don't find to many of the poisonous ones around here that often.

Lisa, no, we aren't close to the fires. We live in California. The fires are on the eastern side of Arizona, almost to the New Mexico border.

Shed snake skins are cool, and so fragile. We found one at the end of our drive that was over 6 ft long. eeep!
We brought it in the house to enjoy and our cats jumped up on the shelf and found it great fun to destroy. *pout*
