Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

I went for a ride yesterday~YES~

Yes, that's me...ON Lucille!  Yesterday was lesson day for the horses and I wore my boots and jeans and asked if it was ok for me to ride Lucille.  She's only been conditioned now for 3 lessons, but we took her down to the arena. Remember, she stood in her corral for almost a year without getting ANY exercise!  She is PERFECT for me!  She stands at the mounting block (which I need for her size) and stands for your dismount.  She WALKS (unlike a couple of my other horses) and you just need very light aids for her.  I'm THRILLED to mark this milestone!  She's a big girl (1/2 draft and 1/2 Tennessee Walker), so getting up on her is a real accomplishment!

And, I can report that since I've been drinking green smoothies now for 3 weeks, I have MUCH more energy!  In fact, instead of just SITTING through the horses' entire lessons, I got up, brushed some of them, walked a couple of them, and only had to sit once (when I got too hot in the sun)...YEAH!

Excellent! I'll be that feels great. Good news all around. I've been sitting in a chair in the shade most of the summer watching P.S. ride in the round pen and arena, because it has been just too dang hot and humid for me (but not for a young girl and the horses apparently), and I don't have the energy to even saddle a horse, none-the-less ride it. So, I started lifting weights and exercising indoors again to try to build up some energy.

Isn't she beautiful? She gets really hairy in the winter. But, I dearly LOVE HER! :-)

Thank God you took on that horse. I felt so sorry for her and she is such a doll. She is also a very lucky horse to have you for a mom.

Thank you all for your comments! Yes, she is a lucky mare...she could have ended up at auction.
