Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Road trip!

Between being sick last weekend, and then the food poisoning this week, I just haven't had a chance to drive up to see the herd! I've had two sacks of feed in the back of my car all week that I was too weak to unload last weekend! UGH! I HATE IT when, on my days off, I can't do anything! I stayed home Sunday, to rest, so that was another day I didn't get anything done with the herd! But, today, I'm up at 4:00 a.m., the coffee is perking, and I'm heading out by 5:30 a.m. to take some early morning sunrise pics here in town. Then, home by 7:00 or so to wake hubby up, get him off to work, then I'll stop for some carrots and head up the hill to the horses. First, I'll stop at the swap meet up there and see if there is anything worth buying. Then I'll head over to the ranch, unload the feed, mess around with the horses, and then head out to San Diego to visit my aunt and uncle. Hubby is working this weekend (AGAIN), so I'm heading to SD for cooler temps and a nice ocean breeze! I'll be on the lookout for barns (hehe) along the way, too! We're having salmon for dinner and I imagine I'll wake up early Sunday morning, so I may drive out to Del Mar or Mission San Luis Rey. Anyway, that's the plan! Oh, and to check our any farmers' markets I see along the way! Yes, that's squash and corn growing down here already! In fact, at our "spring fling" yesterday after school, one booth sold fresh corn on the cob to the kids! They sold out! I did root beer floats (also sold out) and two other teachers at my grade level sold cups of cucumber, lime, and hot sauce! Yum, yum! It was a long afternoon, but FUN!

Sorry to read you had food poisoning!

But what a life--driving to San Diego. That's where my dad grew up from the late 30's until he left in the 60's, but I spent all my summers there with my grandparents in Clairemont--out by Mission Bay. Have fun!

Just look at that corn! How good it would taste grilled on the bar-b with lots of butter!!

I hope you accomplished all that you set out to do!
