Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

P is for palomino...ABC Wednesday, May 6, 2009

palomino! Cali, one of our little BLM fillies, is a palomino. She has 3 white stockings and a white blaze. She's always been very people-oriented, unlike her herd-member, Scout, who has up until now, been very people-wary. But, Cali settled right in, followed us around, and nibbled on my hair! She shoved her face into ours and if she could, she would crawl into our pockets! She's very sweet (except for the ferrier!) and everybody who meets her loves her! Our friends and family always enjoy working with her. She stands quietly for the halter and easily leads. She is a joy to work with! Here are some pics of our palomino, Cali! ABC Wednesday for May 6, 2009.

She is adorable - she looks very sweet and fun to work with. You are lucky to have her - and she's lucky to have you!

Our BLM Office is holding an adoption here this coming weekend. Their agent came and talked with our 4-H kids about adopting horses to use in our 4-H horse program. He brought photos of the horses that will be offered and there are some beautiful palominos in the bunch as well as a gorgeous buckskin. I can't wait to see the horses on Friday.

Cali is beautiful. I love palominos but I have never had one. I had a friend as a child who had one. My friends name was Jimmy and he was about 3 feet tall and his horse was a 16hh palomino gelding that Jimmy had to learn to crawl up on him like traversing the straight side of a cliff.
My Dani has a super attitude too- although shes a domestic born part Mustang and never been in the wild. she too would crawl in my pocket especially if there were treats in it. She loves treats! Especially fresh apples an carrots.
Thanks for sharing the pics of your pretty Cali.

I love this last photo, looks like a painting. The horse's position and the light really caught my eye!
