The horse ranch is FULL of scrub jays, like this guy who landed on a pole near the wash rack last Saturday. Unfortunately, it is also home to a Cooper's hawk. Cathy, the owner, mentioned that the baby quail are disappearing...sigh...We had a scrub jay in our desert neighborhood for nearly 4 years. He, too, disappeared when a Cooper's hawk took up residence. I hope this jay stays out of harm's way. Wild Bird Wednesday for October 16, 2013. To visit WBW, please go to:
