Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Bridgeport and surrounding area (for Mikey)

We always enjoy driving into Bridgeport and we especially love to eat lunch at the Bridgeport Inn (see photos), but now we found a little meat market right across the street...Albert's.  He carries all kinds of meat, including venison.  He also makes the BEST sandwiches we've eaten on the trip!  We'll be back up to visit Albert's again.  Once hubby told him his stepfather had been a butcher, Albert warmed up to hubby and opened up!  I always enjoy looking at the cattle around Bridgeport, although even the young ones are already tagged.  It's such beautiful country!  We were up here in February a couple of years ago as I had a 4 day weekend for President's Day and the whole area was completely covered with snow.  I believe we both sufferered snow blindness!  But, on this trip and for this winter, the snowfall certainly didn't set any records.  The only snow we saw was way up on the higher elevations and there wasn't even much up there!  We returned to Bridgeport yesterday, bought sandwiches, and ate them at the cabin.  I promptly fell asleep and took a 2 hour nap (I have a NASTY cold!!!) We drove out to Mono Lake and the south tufa yesterday afternoon and today we leave for Lone Pine, and then home.  I'm going to miss the Sierra Nevada and I hope we can return later this summer!

See, now that I don't live in NV anymore, I enjoy seeing pictures of my old haunts. We've eaten at the Bridgeport Inn several times and also love the Hays Street Cafe. Haven't been to the butcher shop. I've have pictures of that same barn in my portfolio. My parents vacationed on Robinson Creek every summer since I was about 10. I know the horseback riders are at the Hunewell Ranch.

Gorgeous! Some days, (like today) I'm wishing I lived somewhere there was grass and green stuff again. That town looks beautiful!
