Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 3 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Quad and Sunni~Friday's Fences~041312

I always seem to have fences in my horse photos, so here are a couple from last weekend.  That's Sunni and Quad.  Another late winter/early spring storm is going to hit our local mountains starting tonight, with up to a foot of new snow forecast, so I probably won't be able to get up to see the horses this weekend...sigh...Then next week, the desert will have daytime temps up into the 90's!!!!  Friday's Fences for April 13, 2012.  To visit Friday's Fences, please go to:   http://lifeaccordingtojanandjer.blogspot.com/

Just chores

This morning I headed out bright and early. It was an incredibly beautiful day, with some high clouds, but plenty of blue sky...perfect for taking photos! I left the house about 7:30 a.m. and stopped to take photos along the road. By the time I got up to the ranch, it was nearly 10:00 a.m. The owners were gone, so I didn't take any of the horses out. Instead, I cleaned out the tack room, messed around with the mustangs, filled up blue water containers (ALL of the automatic waterers are unplugged due to the below-freezing nighttime temps!). I messed around with Quad for a while and Sunni and I caught them staring at me over their corral and the arena! What a couple of goofy guys! I'll drive up one afternoon this week, too, for another visit. Quad was very interested in sniffing me. He's so gentle!

Sunny was good and Quad was a brat!!!!

Yup. Apparently during Tuesday's lesson, Sunni was good and paid attention and did everything he was asked to do, while Quad was a BRAT! (...sigh...) Hubby is working this weekend and I'll have two days to put in some quality horse time! I'm also going to take my tripod with me and HOPEFULLY get some better horse pics, although I do like the ones I posted yesterday of Scout's nose! :-) Don't you just want to give her a smooch? I'll brush and groom everybody since it will be in the mid-70's this weekend here in the desert and mid-60's in the mountains. YEAH! I should also be able to get some wildflower photos! I'm taking my camera with me to school today as there is a gorgeous orchid tree out in the quad that I want to get some photos of and there are also some pretty yellow lantanas blooming!
