Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 3 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Status of the herd: Scout and Cali

Scout and Cali are doing fine. They had their training lesson this week and from what I hear, Cali is very calm. Scout remembers her lessons, but sometimes likes to escape being haltered! Little bugger!!! Both now tie (Cali is so calm, that's not a problem!) Scout watched the other horses get their feet trimmed last visit and decided SHE didn't wish to have her feet done and wouldn't allow anybody to halter her! Her mustang feet are in pretty good shape, so now she will have to wait until his next visit! I need to get up and brush them, but I'm hesitant because they still have some very cold nights, especially when the winds kick up.

Scout and Cali, BLM fillies

These are our two little BLM fillies from Wyoming, Scout and Cali. Cali is the palomino. Scout is the...er...roan/buckskin. Cali was very people friendly already! She is very calm around people and followed us around right away. Scout, on the other hand...was very wary. She was SURE we were going to eat her! It even took our trainer a while to halter her. She is ever watchful. Cali would climb in my lap if she could! Go figure. They are very different personalities.
