Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Signs of fall here in the desert

There are subtle signs of fall here in the desert.  I noticed that the sun was very low on the horizon yesterday and the shadows were long.  The afternoon had a golden yellow tone.  Leaves were falling from our cottonwood tree in the back yard.  While we were stuck on the mountain Saturday evening, brisk winds came up and they were...COLD!  The mornings are cold now when I drive up to the mountains to see the horses.  Crisp and cold.  The Michael's store in Costa Mesa had scarecrows and pumpkins on sale out front...a LOT of them!  I'm going to dig out my fall decorations soon, but they're out in the garage and I won't have time this week.  Yesterday we actually had the air conditioner OFF for most of the day...that's a real sign of fall!  It's going to be 100 here today, but the rest of the week will be in the high 90's.

We are actually supposed to get down in the 60's for a high after tomorrow for the rest of the week. It is time for us to start picking and cleaning up for the winter months. Yuck!! I loved your picture!

Beautiful photo.

We never had to use our swamp cooler this summer and I just turned off our ceiling fans for the year. Nights are down to the low 40s, mornings are crisp and cool and daytime temps don't want to rise above 60F.
Fall has definitely arrived in New Mexico...and I'm not ready.
