Desert Horses
Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Quad's lesson yesterday
Quad was much softer and more responsive during yesterday's lesson. He paid attention to Maia and didn't show "tude" once! (...knock on wood!) I was really pleased with him. She took him to the tie rack, picked up his feet, cleaned them, brushed him all over, then sprayed him with fly spray. He's always been very good about standing for fly spray. She saddled him and took him to the round pen and worked him there and he was very responsive. He got sweaty, so he got a nice, cool shower as a reward for his good behavior. Ahhhh....that felt good! He's very friendly and seeks me out whenever I visit. He loves to have attention, so today I brushed him all over and put some SWAT on him. He's becoming much more relaxed around both Maia and me and he enjoys his time out of his corral, during his lessons.

It's nice that he's relaxed. Is he the first one you'll eventually ride?
Actually, I'm looking at either Scout or Cali. Quad is really tall, while the two mustangs are 14 hands. However, my trainer is looking for a friend to ride Quad this summer...she's trying to get hold of him. Quad would be great in the arena, but he's too clumsy for trails. The mustangs, with their short legs and stocky bodies, would be perfect for trail riding.
Ahhh..interesting. Beautiful is also on the shorter side. Time will tell if she's clumsy or not.
Sounds like great progerss.
