Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 3 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Dad and Sunni

Since I'm not sure yet if I can even get up the mountain this weekend to visit the horses, I'm posting more pics from last weekend. This is Sunni, following hubby along the inside of the arena. For some reason, he walked all the way down to the end of the arena to check something out and when he turned around, Sunni just followed him! Good thing these two have bonded, since Sunni is the horse hubby will be riding one day! I love to watch him run in the arena. He has a very smooth gait. Maybe by my birthday, next Saturday, I'll have a video camera and I can get some video of Sunni running in the arena??? (hint, hint...hubby!)

Skywatch Friday: The coming storm...

A fairly large storm front is moving into our area. Snow is forecast down to 4,000 feet, which means I probably won't be able to drive up to see the horses this weekend. Hubby is working this weekend, also, so I may just stay home and TRY to get over this cold that I've had now for over a week. I have a four day weekend next weekend, so maybe the weather will be better then! SkyWatch Friday for February 6, 2009.

Sunni

Sunni is usually pretty tame and when we take him down to the arena, he just stands and looks at us. We have to chase him away. Not Sunday! The minute I unclipped his lead rope, he stood (he is trained to do that) and then took off! He actually enjoyed his romp in the arena! He went around and around and around and around! It was the first time in a while that I've actually seen him enjoy being a horse!

That's My World for Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Before I went to work on Cali's feet Saturday, my aunt and uncle drove up to see "the herd" Saturday morning. It was a nice, warm day and they wanted to get out of their house! They are both in their 80's and still drive! My uncle, who is Danish, grew up in Wisconsin and had lots of horses on the farm. He always tells me stories about them. Their daughter, Cindy, had a quarter horse which she rode and showed during her high school years and Uncle Earl misses horses! He is so gentle with ours! He LOVES on them and they love him back! It's a very special thing to see! Here's a glimpse of my horse world for Tuesday, February 3, 2009. For other My World entries, please visit: http://showyourworld.blogspot.com/

Saturday with Scout

We FINALLY had a warm, decent weekend this weekend! It was warm and not too windy (yesterday was VERY windy!), so I was able to work with Scout and Cali. I need to start checking their feet and getting Cali used to somebody picking up her back two feet! She did much better Saturday. Scout could have cared less. She is unflappable! Ho-hum, what next? I decided to start her on her verbal commands, starting with "stay". She did very well. Stay? Ho-hum. Next!~ Here she is with me on Saturday. We met my aunt and uncle for lunch nearby. They drove up from San Diego to enjoy the view and warm weather.

Scenic Sunday February 1, 2009

We were out driving around against yesterday afternoon and I spotted this gate and decorative wrought iron, so I stopped and took a photo of it. Isn't it pretty? For more Scenic Sunday photos, please visit: http://scenicsunday.blogspot.com/
