Brrrrrr! Look at that cattle chute! And, look at the ranch shed in the middle of a once-green meadow. Both of these are north of Bishop, CA. We love to see these in summer and it was so different to see both of them in winter, covered by snow! Brrrrrrrrr!!!!!
These cuties were in a pasture near Bishop, CA. Of course, we just HAD to stop and take photos of them! We always take this road (the road to Rovana). It starts in cattle country and ends up in the end of a canyon. During the summer, there is a horse packing station, but the horses aren't there now...too much snow! Maybe we'll get to see the horses next summer?
Well, the ranch got a dusting of snow yesterday, but it melted as soon as it hit the ground. Not true for the higher elevations (above 3,500 feet). Our mountains are COVERED with snow this morning! We should have about 7 days of clear weather, with some slight warming. Our temps are still below normal here in the desert. I had to wear a T-shirt, a long sleeved sweater, and my vest to school yesterday. And, I was still cold outside! At least the horses all have their winter coats. I love to see how woolly they are! I went up Sunday to see them and it was so cold my hands nearly froze! We here in Southern California aren't really used to cold temps, like those in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho. The farrier should be able to come next week and trim my horses and take the shoes off the two that were in the Rose Parade.
Okay, so it needs a little TLC, but isn't it CUTE? This home is on the road into Joshua Tree National Park. I just love these little homesteads. One home had a nice fire going in the stove and boy, did it smell GOOD! I saw lots of horse corrals up there....hmmm......
So yesterday hubby asked, "Do you want to drive out to Joshua Tree?", so off we went! It was a clear day, although by afternoon, clouds were moving in, again, and we are scheduled to have showers tomorrow and Tuesday, just in time to return to school :-(. There were a lot of people in the park and most campgrounds were full. There was ice on the ground by the western entrance and snow on the ground, still, at Barker Dam! While it wasn't as cold as the Sierras, I DID have my 3 layers AND my jacket! I'm glad we drove up there for the day. I'll have to stay home and do chores this morning, but then I'll drive up to see the horses! I have missed them! Scenic Sunday for January 2, 2011.
