Desert Horses

Welcome to my horse blog, Desert Horses. We live in the desert southwest, near Palm Springs, CA, but board our horses up in our local mountains where it is cooler in the summer. I have 4 horses, all rescues. Here is the ranch up the mountains where the horses stay.

Sexy Sunni!

I SWEAR by ground flax! It always makes him look so shiny! I buy it at the local health food store ($0.79 a pound) and I usually buy it 5 pounds at a time, grind as needed, and feed it to the horses. They ALL get it, but it really makes him nice and dark and shiny! Isn't he a sexy boy? (Sorry, girls....he's GELDED!) (tee hee!)
He can be a BRAT though! Right now he's going through his "Uh, uh. I DON'T want to be haltered!" stage. First it was the "I don't want to go through gates" stage...now the halter stage. I need to work him through this.

Thats a handsome fella there too. I have never tried ground flax seeds- may have to give it a whirl and see how it works on Sonny's red hairs.

In answer to your email, have 5 quarter horses; Beamer, my stallion, Gussie the red roan and her foal Peppy, Cotoye Belle, a 4 yr. old who is broodmare only, and my yearling, Sassy the palomino. They do keep me busy!
