Rain, lightning, and thunder...oh, my!

Hurricane Delores arrived in the valley Friday and boy, did she pack a punch!  First, we had a haboob.  A haboob is a wall of dirt and dust that moves across the land.  One minute I was looking out at our mountains and 10 minutes later, they were GONE!  Here's a photo from the Toro Peak webcam showing the wall of dust (the haboob):

Then the winds hit.  Then, all day yesterday we had lightning, thunder, and RAIN!  REAL RAIN!  It rained on and off for nearly 24 hours!   :-)  Power went out in Indio and lightning hit a palm tree there, which started a fire.  New "low" temperatures were set yesterday, too, and more rain is in the forecast for today, although this morning, the sky is clear.  I do see some clouds popping up over the mountains, however, and it will probably be raining again by 2:00 p.m.  I didn't even bother going up to the horses yesterday, since it was raining there by 8:00 a.m.  I'm not sure about today, either.  If I can get going by 8, I think I will miss the storm...we'll see...

  1. I'll bet this was the storm that knocked out the bridge on the 10. I was so glad that my So Cal kids made it back home before that happened.
